Learn&Share : VIHTI Finland&Roong Aroon
A group of 4 students, a parent and a teacher from VIHTI District in Finland, visited Roong Aroon School from September 14 – 21 September, 2018.
The lead teacher Ms. Pirjo Leväniemi wanted the group to experience Thai culture in school and at home, and to see Thai education and Roong Aroon’s special perspective on education.
During that time they stayed with our wonderful host families; Pattanan Tuangsithisombat (Pam) – Grade 11/1, Pratchaya Thamputthipong (Syn) , Trin Tanjaroen (Wynn) – Grade 9/2, Chutikarn Kanokkantrakorn (Earn) – Grade 9/2 and Mr. Theerakun Niyom. The hosts planned their own special activities for weekends and after school including touring in and round Bangkok.
At school, the group joined a variety of activities which included the daily routine activities with grade 9 including lineup, snack, cooking, lunch and community service as well as art and P.E classes. In addition, the teachers arranged special classes for the Finnish students including Muay Thai, Thai flower folding, Thai music & dance class and woodworking to make a wood necklace. These activities were a highlight and the group was very thankful to the RA community for this memorable and special experience. Finnish students also presented to our grade 9 students about Finland!

“I really like that Roong Aroon is close to nature. The school isn’t just one closed place, but more like an open place where for example the art lessons are partly outside. The cooking was also fun. Not just because of cooking but also learning to make food with other students from Thailand/ It was fun to learn how the school chores are done in Thailand by the students. At the school there are good possibilities to do many kinds of sports. And from what I’ve seen, the teachers are also really good at what they are teaching. The art lessons I had were so much fun (drawing, pottery, Thai music and woodwork) because I learned many new things by the teachers who were there but also from the students who were always really helpful.

“The flower folding was nice. It was something that you cannot do in a Finnish school. It was very relaxing. The school area was amazing! Near nature, fresh air, but also buildings with some ‘modern things’. Cooking with students! I liked cooking and learning new things and talking with other people. All of this combined at cooking time!
The lizards! Amazing! I haven’t seen this kind of animal in a Finnish zoo or anywhere else, but here I could see them every day for FREE! The Thai sword fighting exercises. I’ve read about fighting with swords in books and I always wanted to try it, and here I could do it! Thank you for this week! I really enjoyed it!

“I really liked to just spend time with the students and it’s nice to have time after lunch to talk to them and see what they’re doing.”
Mr. Matias Vaarala
“I really liked the nature of the school and the free time after lunch where you can talk with other students and the teachers are really nice. I had a lot of fun discussions with them.”
